Royal Copenhagen annual figure 2010 Malik - Sven Vestergaard

Royal Copenhagen annual figure 2010 Malik depicts a little boy in a calm and narrative moment. The figure is designed by Sven Vestergaard and shows Malik standing with one hand slightly raised, as if he is in the middle of a movement or addressing someone beside him. The blue top, the light fur-like trousers and the dark boots with red details give the figure a characterful expression, which brings to mind the Arctic environment and the Greenlandic story on which the motif of the year is based.

Malik is one of the small Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate figures, and this particular figure is taken from the motif on Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plate from the same year, 2010. This makes the figure particularly interesting for collectors, because it not only stands alone as a porcelain figure, but also relates directly to the year's Christmas plate and its atmosphere. If one knows the story of the children Ivalu and Malik with the little seal pup, the figure gains an extra dimension as a small excerpt of the overall motif.

The fine underglaze decoration emphasizes Royal Copenhagen's special tradition for porcelain with soft color transitions and a lively expression. As an annual figure, Malik is well suited to collectors of Royal Copenhagen figures, Christmas plate figures and annual figures, but he also works beautifully on his own in a shelf, a display cabinet or as part of a wintry arrangement. The figure can also be combined with other annual figures from the series or with Christmas plates from Royal Copenhagen, if one wishes to build a collection with a close connection between plate and figure.

Older porcelain figures like this have a special charm, because they carry both design history and narrative forward. It is a lovely way to bring classic Danish porcelain into the home, while at the same time giving a quality product with history new life. For the collector, Malik may be the figure that completes the series, and for the porcelain enthusiast he is an atmospheric example of Royal Copenhagen's ability to transform the year's Christmas motif into an independent figure.
