Bing & Grøndahl goldfinch bird figurine no. 1850 Dahl-Jensen

Bing & Grøndahl goldfinch bird figurine no. 1850 is a classic porcelain figurine modelled by Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen. The figurine shows a small bird in a calm, attentive posture, placed on a branch stub, where the slightly forward-leaning stance and the turned head give the motif life. It is precisely this type of bird figurine that makes Bing & Grøndahl's animal motifs so sought after among collectors of Danish porcelain.

The colouring appears soft and subdued with light and brownish shades that emphasise the figurine's calm expression. The glazed surface beautifully unifies the form and gives fine reflections across the back, wings and breast. The composition is simple, yet well thought out, and Dahl-Jensen's sure eye for the bird's character is evident in both posture and proportions.

Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen is known for his lifelike animal figurines, and this Bing & Grøndahl bird figurine is a good example of that tradition. Here, decorative porcelain and fine modelling craftsmanship are united in a figurine that can both stand alone and be included in a display with other bird figurines, animal figurines or older porcelain objects. It fits well in a display cabinet, on a shelf or as part of a personal interior, where Danish design and craftsmanship are welcome to have space.

For many, older porcelain figurines are also a way to bring history and soul into the home. When choosing vintage porcelain such as this goldfinch from Bing & Grøndahl, one is at the same time choosing a piece of design created to be preserved and appreciated through generations. This makes the figurine ideal as a gift for the collector, the bird lover or the person who appreciates classic Danish porcelain with enduring character.
