Bing & Grøndahl Bullfinch bird figurine no. 438 or 1909

Bing & Grøndahl Bullfinch bird figurine no. 438 or 1909 is a classic porcelain figurine with the calm, lifelike character that many collectors and bird lovers appreciate. The figurine is modelled by Niels Nielsen and depicts the bullfinch sitting on a branch stump with leaves, which gives the motif a fine sense of forest floor and Danish nature. The open beak adds life and movement to the figurine, as if the bird is just about to sing.

The colours are kept in soft, harmonious shades, where the dark head and tail stand beautifully against the lighter back and the warm breast. Together with the glossy glaze and the underglaze-decorated surface, this gives the figurine a lively expression that makes it decorative both on its own and together with other bird figurines from Bing & Grøndahl. It is precisely the type of porcelain figurine that adds personality to the home and a touch of Danish design history, without seeming heavy or formal.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a special presence. They are created with an eye for craftsmanship, motif and lasting quality, and they fit beautifully into a modern interior, where one likes to mix new things with things that have history and soul. A bullfinch from Bing & Grøndahl is also an obvious gift for the collector, the bird lover or for someone who appreciates Danish porcelain and figurines with nature motifs.
