Bing & Grøndahl man with scythe figure no. 2043 Axel Locher

This porcelain figurine from Bing & Grøndahl depicts a man with a scythe in the midst of work and is a fine example of narrative figurative art, where everyday people and occupations are brought to life in porcelain. The motif has a calm, down-to-earth character, and the slightly bent-forward posture gives the figure a natural movement that brings to mind harvest work, farm life, and traditional farming life.

The figure is designed by Axel Locher and belongs to the type of agricultural figurine that many collectors are fond of for its presence and recognizable motif. The man is modeled with a cap, vest, light trousers, and shoes, while the scythe is held diagonally in front of the body. The base is shaped like grassy terrain in green shades, emphasizing the connection to field work and life in the countryside. The colors are subdued and harmonious, which suits the motif and gives the figure a classic expression.

As Bing & Grøndahl figure no. 2043, this is a porcelain figurine that appeals both to collectors of Danish figures and to those who want a characterful occupational figure in the décor. It fits beautifully in a collection with other craft figures, peasant figures, and human figures, but can also stand alone on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or on a desk, where it adds personality and history.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they carry the story of a craftsmanship and a world of motifs that was created to last. Choosing a figure with history is also a way to give good design new life. This makes it ideal as a gift for collectors, for those interested in agriculture, or for anyone who loves classic Danish porcelain with soul.
