Bing & Grøndahl Girl with billy goat figure no. 2180

Bing & Grøndahl figure no. 2180 depicts a girl together with a billy goat in a calm and intimate scene from rural life. The motif carries a fine story within itself: the young girl stands slightly bent toward the animal, and the interaction between the two gives the figure a warm and human expression. It is precisely the type of porcelain figure that makes Danish figurative art so beloved among collectors of Bing & Grøndahl and classic agricultural figures.

Axel Locher has here created a figure with clear character and movement. The girl is executed in blue and white shades with a headscarf around her hair and braids down over her back, while the billy goat is modeled in white and brownish tones. The natural posture and the soft transitions in the form bring the motif to life, and the glazed underglaze beautifully highlights both the colors and the modeled details.

As a piece of craft porcelain work, the figure contains both decorative value and collector interest. It fits well into a collection of Bing & Grøndahl figures, peasant figures and other porcelain figures with motifs from farm life and rural environments. At the same time, it works beautifully as a standalone decoration in the home interior, where it adds personality, history and a classic Danish expression.

Older porcelain figures like this one have a special charm because they are created to be preserved and appreciated through generations. Choosing a figure with history is also a beautiful way to bring lasting craftsmanship into a modern home. It is ideal for the collector, but also as a gift for someone who loves Danish porcelain, figures with animals or motifs from life in the countryside.
