Royal Copenhagen monkey cleaning foot stoneware figurine no. 20211

This stoneware figurine from Royal Copenhagen shows a monkey in a calm, almost contemplative moment, where it sits curled up and cleans its foot. The motif has a fine balance between humor, presence and concentration, and it is precisely that type of vivid animal depiction that helps make the figurine so full of character in the interior. The figurine appears both quiet and expressive at the same time, which gives it a strong presence, even in smaller arrangements.

Knud Kyhn is known for his animal figurines with personality, and here his assured formal language is clearly expressed. The body is modeled with soft, rounded shapes, while the face, hands and feet are highlighted with fine details. The glaze plays beautifully with the figurine's surface in shades of brown, cream and greenish tones, supplemented by a spotted pattern that gives the figurine depth and an almost organic expression. The decorative glaze also means that the figurine changes character depending on the light and the angle from which it is viewed.

As a vintage Royal Copenhagen figurine, this monkey has both history, soul and lasting quality. It is the type of applied art and design with a story that still fits naturally into modern homes. A stoneware figurine like this can be placed on a shelf, on a desk, in a display cabinet or as a personal feature among books, ceramics and other collectibles. It is also an obvious gift for collectors of Royal Copenhagen, for admirers of Knud Kyhn or for anyone who is fond of animal figurines with character.

For the design enthusiast, this is a figurine that combines Danish stoneware, strong modeling and a motif with life. It works both as a decorative art figurine and as a collectible that carries classic Danish design forward into the present.
