Michael Andersen & Son fisherman's wife bust small ceramic no. 3935

This small bust of a fisherman's wife from Michael Andersen & Son has an expression that immediately brings to mind coastal life, Bornholm ceramics, and figures with a distinct personality. The face is modeled with marked features and a vivid gaze, which gives the figure character and presence. It is precisely the type of ceramic figure that draws attention in the decor, because the motif tells both of an occupation and of a piece of Danish design tradition.

The fisherman's wife wears a white bonnet with floral details in blue, green, and yellow shades, while the scarf and bow are executed in a deep reddish, metallic glaze. At the bottom, a crackled glaze can be seen, which gives the surface variation and emphasizes the figure's handmade character. The combination of the light areas, the decorative pattern, and the darker reddish tones gives the bust a striking and decorative expression seen from the front, side, and back.

As an occupational figure and fisher figure, it is well suited to collectors of Michael Andersen ceramics, Bornholm ceramics, and older Danish figures associated with the coastal environment and everyday life. The small size makes it easy to place on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or as part of a collection of human figures and character figures. It can also function as a personal gift for someone who is fond of the maritime environment, Danish decorative arts, and ceramics with history.

Older ceramics like this have a special ability to add soul to the home. When you choose a figure with history, it is at the same time a way to preserve good craftsmanship and let an existing quality product gain new life in a modern interior. This makes the bust interesting both as a collector's item and as a decorative feature with a story.
