About the product
Royal Copenhagen Centennial series Motif: A Peaceful motif Technique: Underglazed Design: R. Bøcher
Through almost 100 years Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plates have given people from all over the world inspiration to either visit or to refresh memories from Denmark. To celebrate this 100 year anniversary in 2008, Royal Copenhagen issues 5 carefully chosen plates and plaquettes from the period 1908-2008.
A little angel, reverently bending over a Christmas rose which has appeared through the snow. This motif gives a very accurate picture of life in Denmark in 1945, and the atmosphere after the German troops had with- drawn from the country after 5 years of occupation during World War II. The Danes were extremely thankful to be a free nation again, and the Chritmas rose, appearing contrary to nature through the snow, is a strong symbol of the strength of will that had supported the people through the war years, until they regained their freedom.
