About the item

Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate from 1908 with the motif Mary with the child, designed by Christian Thomsen. This is the very first Christmas plate from Royal Copenhagen, and it was only produced in 1908. As the great success was not yet known at that time, it was produced in a very limited number, which makes it particularly sought-after today.

The plate is made in Royal Copenhagen's characteristic blue and white underglaze and shows Madonna with child surrounded by a halo of rays. It is a beautiful example of the classic expression that became characteristic of Royal Copenhagen after Arnold Krog's introduction of the Danish underglaze decoration.

NOTE!!! This edition is 2nd sorting and has a small factory crack in the edge, which occurred during firing. See photo. Apart from this, the plate is in very fine condition.

Like the other Royal Copenhagen Christmas plates, there are holes on the back for hanging, so it is easy to hang up.
