Royal Copenhagen stoneware figure Nana bust no. 2897-159

The stoneware figure Nana is a characterful female bust with a calm, thoughtful expression and a form that balances nicely between the simple and the striking. The head is slightly bowed, the eyes closed, and the face is modeled with soft, calm lines that give the figure an almost meditative atmosphere. It is a figure that attracts the eye without seeming obtrusive, and that brings both artistic weight and personality into the room.

The most striking element is the large headscarf, which falls around the head and neck. The glazed surface in shades of blue and turquoise creates a beautiful contrast to the matte, darker bust and emphasizes the figure's sculptural effect. The interplay between the smooth, color-saturated areas and the more subdued surface gives Nana a vibrant and modern expression, even though the figure at the same time carries a classical calm.

The figure is designed by Johannes Hedegaard for Royal Copenhagen and appears as a strong example of Danish stoneware and sculptural decorative art, where form, color and character merge into a higher unity. As a female bust and art figure, it fits beautifully on a shelf, in a windowsill, on a side table or as part of a larger collection of ceramics, figures and Danish design. It functions both as a solitary decoration and in interplay with other art objects, where its blue glaze can create a nice connection to glass, vases or ceramics in similar tones.

Older design objects like this have a special ability to add soul and history to the home. When you choose a vintage figure in stoneware, you simultaneously choose a piece of Danish design that is created to last and to continue to be appreciated in today's interior design. Nana is therefore an obvious choice for the collector, for the design enthusiast or as a gift for someone who loves ceramics, figures and Danish craftsmanship.
