Royal Copenhagen pig figurine no. 419, reclining pig by Erik Nielsen

This large Royal Copenhagen pig figurine no. 419 is a classic porcelain figurine with a calm and naturalistic expression. The reclining pig is modelled in a relaxed position with an outstretched body, slightly raised head and the characteristic curl of the tail, which gives the figure both presence and personality. The light glaze and the discreet details at the snout, ears, eyes and hooves emphasize the fine craftsmanship and make the figure lively without seeming overworked.

The figurine is made by Erik Nielsen, who is known for his lifelike animal figurines for Royal Copenhagen. Here the motif is simple and down-to-earth, but precisely for that reason also very decorative. A pig figurine like this fits beautifully into both rural interior decor, classic Danish design style and a more personal home, where older porcelain figurines are allowed to add warmth, history and character.

As an older Royal Copenhagen figurine, it also contains the special quality that makes vintage porcelain worth collecting and using in interior decor today. It is a piece of Danish design history, created to last, and a fine choice for collectors of animal figurines, Royal Copenhagen porcelain or figurines by Erik Nielsen. The figurine can stand alone as an eye-catcher or be combined with other porcelain animals and decorative art objects, where its long shape and calm expression create variation in the display.

The current text describes the figurine as a large reclining pig, and that corresponds well with the motif shown. Underglaze is also mentioned as the production type, which suits the durable and classic execution for which Royal Copenhagen is known.
