Royal Copenhagen figurine The Woman with the Eggs no. 4418

The Woman with the Eggs is a characterful Royal Copenhagen figurine that captures an everyday motif with calm, humour, and personality. The figurine depicts a woman with a tray full of eggs balanced on her head, while she stands upright and focused with her hands raised in front of her. It is a porcelain figurine with storytelling in its body - a motif that brings to mind life in the countryside, trade at the market, and the small chores of everyday life.

Johannes Hedegaard has given the figurine a lively and recognisable expression. The blue jacket, the dotted headscarf, and the long skirt with vertical stripes in blue and brownish shades create a strong decorative effect, while the posture gives the figurine movement and presence. It is precisely the interplay between the stylised and the human that makes this Royal Copenhagen figurine so interesting to look at from several angles.

As an underglaze porcelain figurine, The Woman with the Eggs bears the craftsmanship that many collectors and design enthusiasts seek in classic figurines from Royal Copenhagen. The motif fits beautifully into a collection of human figurines, rural figurines, and Danish porcelain figurines, but it also works strongly on its own in a bookcase, display cabinet, or on a sideboard, where its slender form and clear colours are allowed to stand out.

This type of figurine appeals both to collectors of Royal Copenhagen, admirers of Johannes Hedegaard's work, and those who want decorative art with history and personality in the home. A figurine like this brings soul into the interior and is at the same time a beautiful example of how good design and good craftsmanship can be preserved and appreciated for many years.
