Bing & Grøndahl Ophelia figurine no. 2409 - Ebbe Sadolin

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 2409 depicts Ophelia in a calm and dreamy posture, where the slender female figure stands with her head slightly bowed and her hands gathered around a flower. The figurine has a poetic expression that beautifully suits the name Ophelia, and which gives the porcelain figurine a quiet, almost theatrical presence. For collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and classic porcelain figures, this is a motif with both grace and character.

The design is attributed to Ebbe Sadolin, and the figurine bears his sure sense of soft lines and harmonious movements. The long, light dress falls in a simple vertical form, while the bodice in green-blue shades creates a fine contrast and highlights the figurine's slender silhouette. The small flower at the hands and the flower in the hair emphasize the romantic and sensitive expression that makes this particular Bing & Grøndahl figurine easily recognizable.

As a porcelain figurine, Ophelia no. 2409 is a beautiful example of Danish figure art, where motif and glaze work closely together. Underglaze gives the surface depth and a lively play of colors, while the modeling creates a calm flow all the way around the figurine. It works well as a standalone decoration in the living room, on a shelf, or in a display cabinet, but it can also be included in a collection of female figures, theater figures, or classic B&G figurines.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a special ability to add history and personality to the home. They are decorative art and collectibles created to be preserved, appreciated, and passed on. If you choose a figurine with history, you get not just a decorative object, but also a piece of Danish design tradition that can still bring joy in a modern home.
