Bing & Grøndahl Thirst figure no. 495 or 2435 Tuborg Man

The Bing & Grøndahl figure "Thirst" is a characterful porcelain figure with plenty of storytelling in the motif. Here the thirsty man stands leaning against a rough wooden fence with his hand raised to his head, as if the day's work and the summer heat can be felt throughout his body. In the other hand he holds his hat, while the jacket is draped over the fence, and the whole scene gives the figure a vivid, folksy expression with a clear connection to farming life and everyday stories from life in the countryside.

The motif is also known as The Thirsty Man or the Tuborg Man, and that is precisely what makes the figure especially interesting for collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figures and classic Danish porcelain figures. The expression is both humorous and human, and the figure contains the warm, observant approach to everyday motifs that many appreciate in older Danish figure art.

The colours are subdued and natural with light grey trousers, greenish vest, brown hat and fence as well as green planting by the base. This gives a calm overall impression, which makes the figure suitable both in a collection and as a standalone porcelain figure in the interior. It fits nicely on a shelf, in a display cabinet or together with other figures with motifs from farm life, crafts and Danish everyday life.

As this is an older Bing & Grøndahl figure, it is also a beautiful example of the joy of preserving quality objects with history. Erotic? No. Erotic? No? irrelevant. This type of vintage porcelain figure adds personality, cultural history and soul to the home and is at the same time a sustainable choice for you who prefer good craftsmanship created to last through generations.

The figure is made of porcelain and stated with underglaze as the technique. For collectors, both the title, model numbers and the well-known nickname are important details when the figure is to be correctly identified.
