Royal Copenhagen monkey with baby no. 20241 stoneware figurine

Royal Copenhagen monkey with baby no. 20241 is a stoneware figurine with a warm and intimate expression. The motif shows a seated monkey holding its young close to its body, and the entire composition exudes calm, care and protection. It is precisely the human feeling in the animal motif that makes this figurine so captivating in the interior and so sought after among collectors of Danish design and animal figurines.

The figurine is made by Knud Kyhn, who is known for his vivid and characterful animal depictions for Royal Copenhagen. Here the form is soft and compact, with finely modelled details in the face, hands and feet. The glaze plays beautifully across the figurine in light shades with darker, organic markings, which emphasize the handmade character and give the surface depth. From every angle, the figurine is experienced as cohesive and sculptural, and the motif gains both weight and warmth.

As a monkey figurine, stoneware figurine and design object, it fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as part of a collection of Royal Copenhagen figurines. It can also stand alone as a decorative element, where it adds personality and a more artistic expression to the room. Knud Kyhn's animal figurines have for many years been appreciated for their strong formal language, and this model is a good example of how decorative art and sculptural quality can go hand in hand.

For collectors of Royal Copenhagen and for those who are fond of classic animal figurines in stoneware, monkey with baby no. 20241 is a charming and characterful choice. It combines Danish design tradition, strong modelling and a motif that speaks directly to the emotions.
