Information on the back of the plate:
The steam-sailing ship S/S Island, built for the Tingvilla company by B&W in 1882, was, with its 2803 gross tons, one of the largest and most modern immigrant ships of its time. It was deployed in passenger service on the route to New York. Despite being a steamship, the vessel was also rigged as a 3-masted brigantine and sailed on this route well into the century. Thousands of immigrants made the journey across the Atlantic to a new future in the great unknown land aboard S/S Island.
