According to the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Little Mermaid is longing for the beautiful prince, whom she saved from drowning. She goes to the surface of the water to admire him many times. The Desiree Christmas plate 1972 was designed by Edvard Eriksen. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended it in 2002.
