The motif of this 1985 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is Kronborg Castle which is found in the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale Holger Danske. According to the fairytale "Holger Danske" by Hans Christian Andersen Holger Danske is sleeping deep down in the cellar at the Danish castle named Kronborg Castle. Holger Danske is dreaming about the things which are happening in Denmark and on Christmas Eve an angel is coming to tell him that everything he dreams is true and Denmark is not in any danger. The guns at Kronborg bid strange ships welcome but this means nothing to Holger Danske who will just wake up in an emergency to save Denmark.
