Royal Copenhagen Else reading figurine no. 674 - girl with book

Else reading from Royal Copenhagen is a porcelain figurine with a quiet and intimate expression that captures a child absorbed in her own little world. The figurine shows Else sitting on the floor with an open book in her lap, and the motif exudes calm, immersion, and the simple moments of everyday life. The blue and white colour scheme gives the figurine a classic and recognisable expression that fits beautifully into both traditional and more contemporary homes.

This Royal Copenhagen figurine belongs to the beloved Else and Jens figurines, created by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger. Her child figurines in particular are known for their warm humanity and fine observation of children's natural movements and moods. Here Else is depicted with lowered gaze, soft shapes, and a relaxed seated posture, while the open book with visible illustration emphasises the motif's story of a love of reading and immersion.

The porcelain figurine is made in underglaze, which helps give the surface depth and the characteristic clear finish that collectors and design enthusiasts associate with classic figurines from Royal Copenhagen. As a child figurine, it is an obvious choice for those who collect the Else and Jens series, but it also works beautifully as a standalone figurine on a shelf, in a bookcase, on a desk, or in a personal arrangement with other Danish design and porcelain.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they bring both history, craftsmanship, and personality into the interior. It is a lovely way to choose something that has already been created to last, and that can continue to bring joy for many years to come. Else reading is also an obvious gift idea for anyone who appreciates classic Danish porcelain, child figurines, or motifs with books, reading, and quiet everyday moments.
