Bing & Grøndahl sparrow figurine no. 1607 in stoneware by Carl Mortensen

Bing & Grøndahl sparrow figurine no. 1607 is a characterful bird figurine in stoneware, created by Carl Mortensen. The figurine depicts a sparrow with its head raised and beak open, as if it is sitting in the middle of birdsong. This gives the motif life and presence and makes it an atmospheric feature for those who are fond of classic animal figurines, Danish decorative arts, and bird motifs with personality.

Carl Mortensen has modelled the sparrow with a round, compact body and an upright posture that gives the figurine a calm, yet at the same time lively expression. In the pictures, dark areas can be seen at the head, wings, and tail, light fields at the neck and back, as well as a warm brownish tone on the body. The painted details highlight the plumage and support the figurine's natural expression, without it losing its sculptural character. It is precisely the combination of form, play of colours, and movement that makes this Bing & Grøndahl figurine interesting both for collectors and for those who would like to decorate with older design objects.

A sparrow is a well-known motif in Nordic nature, and therefore the figurine fits beautifully into homes where one wants something down-to-earth and poetic at the same time. It works well alone on a shelf or in a bookcase, but can also be combined with other bird figurines, animal figurines, or ceramics and porcelain in muted shades. As an older stoneware figurine, it also has the special quality that it carries history and craftsmanship further into a modern home. It is a sustainable way to choose something with durability, soul, and character rather than new production.

This figurine is also an obvious gift idea for collectors of Bing & Grøndahl, for bird enthusiasts, or for the person who appreciates Danish design with nature as its motif.
