Bing & Grøndahl Great Dane figurine no. 1773, lying down

This lying Great Dane from Bing & Grøndahl is a dog figurine with calm, weight and presence. The figurine shows the large dog in a relaxed, yet attentive posture, where the upright head and the long, stretched body give the model a fine balance between strength and elegance. It is a porcelain figurine that captures the character of the breed in a natural and convincing way.

The black-and-white decoration emphasizes the figurine's vivid expression. The dark areas are distributed across the head, back and sides, while the light base makes the shape and musculature of the body stand out clearly. Seen from several angles, the figurine is experienced differently, and that is precisely what makes it suitable as an eye-catcher on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as part of a collection of Bing & Grøndahl animal figurines.

The model is designed by Lauritz Jensen, and here one senses the sure feel for animals in porcelain. The lying position gives the figurine a calm expression, but at the same time there is tension in the gaze and in the upright neck, which makes it much more than a mere decorative object. For collectors of dog figurines, Great Dane figurines and classic Danish porcelain, figurine no. 1773 is an obvious choice.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a special ability to add personality to the home. They carry craftsmanship, history and character with them, and they function beautifully in a modern interior, where a few well-chosen objects are allowed to stand out. At the same time, it is a fine way to choose quality design with longevity and give a new life to an existing piece of craftsmanship.
