German Shepherd Bing & Grøndahl dog figurine no. 1854

This German Shepherd from Bing & Grøndahl is a dog figurine in porcelain with a lively and very characteristic expression. The figurine is modelled in a forward-facing, tense posture with open jaws, erect ears and raised tail, so that it conveys the same blend of alertness, strength and energy for which the breed is known. The grey-toned nuances in the glaze, together with the light areas on the chest, muzzle and paws, give the motif depth and emphasize the figurine's naturalistic character.

It is precisely this movement that makes this Bing & Grøndahl dog figurine special. The body is tense, the legs stand firm, and the head is raised, as if the dog has just spotted something or is making itself known with a bark. The glossy surface highlights the modelling beautifully, and the underglaze decoration gives the porcelain figurine a classic expression that fits well into both traditional and modern collections of Danish porcelain.

For collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines and dog figurines, the German Shepherd is a motif with great appeal. The German Shepherd is often associated with loyalty, intelligence and industriousness, and this makes the figurine ideal as a gift for the dog lover or as a personal detail in the home. Place it in the display cabinet, on a shelf or together with other animal figurines, where it can add variation and history to the collection.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special ability to create presence in the décor. They are made to last a long time and can still have a beautiful place in the home many years from now. Choosing vintage porcelain is at the same time a way to give fine craftsmanship new life and bring quality with history into everyday life.
