Bing & Grøndahl Woman with fishing net figurine no. 2036

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 2036 depicts a woman with a fishing net and has a calm, narrative expression that brings to mind coastal life, fishing, and everyday life in the Danish harbour environments. The figurine stands with the net by her side and her hand raised in front of her face, as if she is gazing out into the light or the wind. The motif gives the porcelain figurine life and presence and makes it an atmospheric occupational figurine with a clear connection to life by the sea.

Axel Locher has here created a human figure in which posture and details work beautifully together. The headscarf, the apron, the subdued colours and the falling fishing net give the figurine character and underline the story of work, waiting, and the rhythm of everyday life. The soft glaze and the calm colour scale in greyish, blue and brownish tones suit the motif and make the figurine easy to place in the interior, whether it stands alone or together with other porcelain figurines with motifs from rural life, coastal life or classic Danish occupations.

This porcelain figurine is made in underglaze, which helps to highlight the fine surfaces and the calm play of colours. Bing & Grøndahl is known for figurines with strong modelling and human warmth, and this is precisely felt in this figurine. It is well suited to collectors of Bing & Grøndahl figurines, for those who are fond of maritime motifs, or as a gift idea for someone who appreciates Danish porcelain with history and personality.

Older porcelain figurines like this one bring not only beauty into the home, but also story and cultural history. Choosing a figurine with history is at the same time a way of giving classic craftsmanship new life. In a modern home, it can create contrast, depth and warmth - on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as part of a personal collection.
