Bing & Grøndahl fisherman figurine no. 489 or 2370

This Bing & Grøndahl fisherman figurine no. 489 or 2370 depicts a seated fisherman in a calm, contemplative moment. The figurine is modeled with a natural posture, where the man sits on a stone and turns his gaze upward, as if he is looking out toward the sea or following the weather. The maritime motif gives the figurine a special closeness to coastal life, seafaring, and working life by the water.

The blue sweater, the dark trousers, and the wide hat emphasize the story of fishing as a profession and way of life. At the same time, the light base and the simple construction create a fine interplay between the figurine's calm expression and Bing & Grøndahl's classic design language. It is a porcelain figurine that works both as a craft figurine, fisherman figurine, and maritime collector's figurine.

The figurine is designed by Svend Jespersen and made in porcelain with underglaze, which helps give the surface depth and a beautiful sheen. It is precisely the combination of artistic modeling and the characteristic glaze that makes this Bing & Grøndahl figurine interesting for collectors of Danish porcelain and figurines with occupational motifs. The motif also appeals to those who are fond of maritime interior design, fishing, or Danish figurines with story and personality.

A fisherman figurine like this fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or as part of an arrangement with other porcelain figurines, maritime objects, or classic Danish decorative arts. It can also be an obvious gift idea for a collector or for someone who has a special connection to the sea, the coast, or the life of fishermen. Older porcelain figurines like this are at the same time a beautiful way to choose quality objects with lasting value and let fine craftsmanship live on in the home.
