Bing & Grøndahl skier figure no. 2358 - Vita Thymann

Bing & Grøndahl figure no. 2358 depicts a skier in a calm and upright moment on the snow. The figure is designed as a sports figure with a young person standing with the skis gathered beside them, ready for the trip or just returned home from the winter landscape. The blue sweater, the dark trousers, the light mittens and the white snow beneath the feet give the figure a clear and recognizable expression that fits beautifully into the collection of classic child figures and sports children from Bing & Grøndahl.

The motif has the quiet narrative that many appreciate in older porcelain figures. There is no drama here, but presence, everyday life and movement captured in a simple motif. The skier brings back memories of winter, fresh air and the joy of sport, and precisely for that reason it is ideal for collectors of porcelain figures with children, leisure life and Nordic motifs.

The figure is designed by Vita Thymann and executed in porcelain with underglaze, which emphasizes the classic craftsmanship for which Bing & Grøndahl is known. The slender form and the simple posture make the model decorative both on its own and together with other figures from the same universe. It fits nicely in a display cabinet collection, on a shelf with Danish design or as a personal gift for someone who is fond of skiing, winter motifs or older porcelain with history.

Choosing an older Bing & Grøndahl figure is also a way to give fine craftsmanship new life. Porcelain figures with history add personality to the home and are a sustainable alternative to new production. A figure like this can still bring joy in a modern home, where it functions both as a collector's item and as a small piece of Danish design culture.
