Bing & Grøndahl grebe with young figure no. 2439 28 cm

Bing & Grøndahl figure no. 2439 depicts a grebe with young and captures a calm, vivid moment on the water. The long, upright neck, the pointed beak and the characteristic crest on the head give the bird a distinctive expression, while the small young lie close by and on top of the adult bird. The motif has both presence and movement, and the figure tells a small story about nature, care and life on the water.

In the pictures, the bird figure is seen in porcelain with underglaze, executed in soft shades of brown, grey, cream white and blue-green tones. The elongated base is shaped like undulating water, which emphasizes the motif's light forward movement. The young are modelled as a natural part of the composition, so the figure appears interesting from several angles. This creates a bird figure with both decorative strength and a fine nature motif, which suits collectors of Bing & Grøndahl well and those who are fond of classic animal figures in Danish porcelain.

The model is associated with Karl Otto Johansen, and precisely in this figure one senses the confident balance between lifelike observation and stylized design. The porcelain and the underglaze give the surface depth and calm color transitions, which suit the motif beautifully. The grebe works beautifully in a display cabinet, on a shelf or as part of a collection with bird figures and other animal figures from Bing & Grøndahl.

Older porcelain figures like this have a special value because they unite craftsmanship, history and usable beauty. When you choose a figure with age and soul, it is also a way of giving quality design new life. That makes it an obvious choice for the collector, the nature lover or as a gift for someone who appreciates Danish porcelain with character.
