Bing & Grøndahl The Tinderbox figurine no. 8051 The Soldier and the Witch

This Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 8051 draws its motif from H.C. Andersen's fairy tale The Tinderbox and captures one of the story's most suspenseful moments. Here, the soldier is seen high up by the hollow tree, while the witch stands below and follows the scene. The composition is dramatic and lively, and the figurine tells the story from several angles, making you want to walk all the way around it.

Jens Jakob Bregnø has created a fairy tale figurine with a strong narrative and many fine details. The soldier's blue uniform stands in fine contrast to the witch's dark red skirt and patterned bodice, while the large tree brings the scene together and gives the figurine both height and character. At the base of the trunk, clear details such as stones, vegetation, an axe, and a black cat can also be seen, helping to emphasize the fairy tale atmosphere and make the motif even more vivid.

As a porcelain figurine with overglaze, it has a glossy and nuanced appearance that suits the motif well. It is a figurine that appeals to collectors of Bing & Grøndahl, fairy tale figurines, and classic Danish porcelain, but also to those who want a decorative figurine with narrative, movement, and personality. It is precisely the combination of a well-known fairy tale, thoroughly worked modelling, and striking construction that makes this figurine an eye-catching feature in the interior.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they carry both history and craftsmanship forward. They add soul and character to the home and are at the same time a sustainable choice for those who appreciate quality objects created to last through generations. The figurine fits beautifully in a display cabinet, on a shelf, or as part of a collection of Danish fairy tale figurines and porcelain art.
