Søholm Money Box Man Knud Heinesen 1981 - Money Box Man of the Year

This Søholm Money Box Man featuring Knud Heinesen from 1981 is a striking piece of Danish design history, where money box, portrait figure and collector's item meet in one and the same object. The figure is designed as a characterful bust with distinct facial features, glasses, tie and jacket, which gives it a strong personal expression and makes it easily recognizable as part of the Money Box Man of the Year series.

As Money Box Men from Søholm, these ceramic money boxes have a very special place in Danish collector culture. They were created for Bikuben and unite humor, contemporary history and applied art in a way that still appeals to both collectors and design enthusiasts. The Knud Heinesen motif links the figure to Danish politics and makes it extra interesting for those who collect political figures, historical money boxes or Danish ceramic figures with a clear period image.

Knud Heinesen was Danish Minister of Education from 1971 to 1973 as well as Minister of Finance from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1981 to 1982. Precisely for that reason, this Money Box Man also contains a story about Denmark in the beginning of the 1980s. It functions both as a decorative ceramic figure and as a collector's item with a documented historical reference.

A vintage money box like this adds personality and history to the home. It can stand alone on the shelf, in the office or in the display cabinet, where it stands out with its portrait character and its connection to Danish design and Danish social life. At the same time, it is a fine example of how older applied art and ceramics can gain new life in a contemporary interior. For collectors, it is precisely this kind of objects with cultural history, soul and original function that makes reuse something special.
