About the product
Royal Copenhagen Portraits of Old Copenhagen plate no. 4 Year of issue: 1978 The Gate to the King's Garden, The Queen Gate, built in 1913 by Helge Bøjsen- Møller Designed by: Mads Stage
The fourth plate in a series of twelve. This is only one of many entrances to the King's Garden - the oldest park of Copenhagen The garden was planned in 1606 by King Christian IV, where he built Rosenborg Castle as his summerresidence. The castle is now a museum that holds among others the crownjuwels along with the royal family's collection of paintings, silver and porcelain. The Royal Porcelainfactory's first Flora Danica dinner set is also safekept here.
Copenhagen Prospects was issued in three sets of four over three years from 1978 to 1980. It was Mads Stage, who drew the drawings of the historic buildings for Royal Copenhagen. The rim of the plates, which surrounds the motifs in gold, are inspired by the cast iron fench that surrounds the top of The Round Tower. It was both a technical and artistic challenge for Royal Copenhagen to transfer the delicate and light watercolour drawings to the porcelain and therefore Copenhagen Prospects is an example of the level artistic abilities in 1980. The oranamental plates can be used both as table plates for the festive table and as decoration for the walls in the living room. Then you will also have a practical and decorative means of storage, when the plates are not in use.
