About the product
Royal Copenhagen Portraits of Old Copenhagen plate no.3 Year of issue: 1978 Motif: The Naval Church in Copenhagen, built 1641 by Leonhard Blasius in 1641 Technique: Overglaze-decoration Designed by: Mads Stage
The third plate in a series of twelve. The Naval Church was originally a smithy built by King Frederik II in 1563. The church is used by the Royal Family, the Navy as well as the people of Denmark.
Copenhagen Prospects was issued in three sets of four over three years from 1978 to 1980. It was Mads Stage, who drew the drawings of the historic buildings for Royal Copenhagen. The rim of the plates, which surrounds the motifs in gold, are inspired by the cast iron fench that surrounds the top of The Round Tower. It was both a technical and artistic challenge for Royal Copenhagen to transfer the delicate and light watercolour drawings to the porcelain and therefore Copenhagen Prospects is an example of the level artistic abilities in 1980. The oranamental plates can be used both as table plates for the festive table and as decoration for the walls in the living room. Then you will also have a practical and decorative means of storage, when the plates are not in use.
