Rörstrand Mother's Day plates with motifs by Carl Larsson
Rörstrand began releasing Mother's Day plates in 1971, just two years after Bing & Groendahl launched its first Mother's Day plate. The series continued until 2004.
For the motifs, Rörstrand chose pictures by the Swedish artist Carl Larsson, who is especially known for his depictions of family and life at home in Sundborn.
All plates are decorated in blue and white with a border around the motif. Therefore, the different editions match well, even though the motifs change throughout the series.
Motifs from life in Sundborn
The motifs show small scenes from Carl Larsson's family life in Sundborn, including playing children, the family around the table, and life in and around the home. The intimate everyday depictions naturally suit a series released for Mother's Day.
Carl Larsson's motifs were also used by Bing & Groendahl for a number of plates. His well-known pictorial world has thus left its mark on several Scandinavian plate series.
The many different motifs make it possible both to collect the entire series and just choose the editions you like the most.

Can you eat from Rörstrand Mother's Day plates?
Yes. Rörstrand Mother's Day plates are decorated with the classic underglaze, which makes them suitable for daily use. They withstand dishwasher and can be used as ordinary lunch plates while maintaining their beautiful appearance year after year. When not in use, they can be hung on the wall using the hanging hole on the back.
Rörstrand Mother's Day plates measure approximately 21 cm in diameter and therefore correspond in size to a regular plate. They can therefore be used for breakfast, lunch, starters, cake, and dessert. Many also use them for smaller servings when the table may be a bit different.
Use them on the wall when not on the table
The back of the plates has holes, so they can easily be hung with a plate hanger.
A single plate can hang together with pictures and other wall decorations, while several editions can be collected into a larger wall decoration.
Because the plates have the same colors and border, it is easy to combine different editions. They can also be combined with other blue and white porcelain from both Rörstrand and other Scandinavian producers.

Porcelain with history and soul
Choosing a Rörstrand Mother's Day plate is not only about buying a plate. It is also a way to preserve good craftsmanship and give quality products new life. Porcelain with history and soul adds personality to the home and is a sustainable alternative to new production.
