About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Mother's Day Jubilee Plate 1979 is a beautiful and sought-after collector's plate in classic blue-and-white porcelain. This large B&G Mother's Day plate marks the 10th anniversary of the first Mother's Day plate from 1969 and therefore bears the same motif: a cocker spaniel with puppies. The motif conveys maternal care, security and closeness in a warm and charming way, which makes the plate more than just a collector's item.
The plate is made after a motif by Henry Thelander and combines Bing & Grøndahl's fine tradition for Danish porcelain with a motif that has made the series beloved among both collectors and users. The classic Bing & Grøndahl Mother's Day plates were introduced in 1969 and are still produced, while the jubilee plates were issued separately from 1979 and thereafter every 5 years until 2009. Precisely for this reason, the 1979 edition has a special place in the series as the first Mother's Day jubilee plate.
This porcelain plate differs from the ordinary Mother's Day plates by the larger size of 23 cm. This makes it particularly useful as a serving plate, dinner plate or as the bottom and largest plate in a decorative arrangement of plates. The slightly deep shape also makes it suitable for smaller servings, cake, lunch or dessert, if you wish to use vintage porcelain in everyday life rather than only having it standing as decoration.
Bing & Grøndahl has produced the plates in robust porcelain of high quality with classic underglaze decoration, which is dishwasher safe. The blue-and-white shades make it easy to combine with both Bing & Grøndahl's and Royal Copenhagen's classic tableware, including Blue Fluted, Empire and Blue Flower, as well as other blue-painted porcelain series. At the same time, it has hanging holes on the back, so it can be used both as wall decoration and as a functional plate.
An older B&G plate like this combines collector's value, utility value and sustainability. Choosing recycled porcelain with history and soul is a beautiful way to preserve quality design that is created to last through generations. At DPH - Danish Porcelain House, we have built up a large stock of Bing & Grøndahl Mother's Day plates over many years, and many years can often be found at attractive prices.
