About the product
1995 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, designed by Sven Vestergaard, has the title Christmas at the Manor House. Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plate from 1995 depicts a castle dating back to the 14th century Zealand. Holsteinsborg castle has a history as rich as the plate it adorns. Acquired by the Holstein family in 1707, this magnificent castle was built over a period of 52 years, from 1598-1650. Prior to ownership by the Holstein's, the castle was originally known first as Brådegård and then Trolholm. In 1811 Holsteinsborg castle was the home of Denmark's first indoor Christmas tree - a tradition which has spread throughout the world. With the creation of Christmas at the manor house, Sven Vestergaard has captured the romance of Holsteinsborg castle - a glowing hearth, gently illuminating the family Christmas tree. Outside, snow quietly falls upon the serene countryside. Holsteinsborg castle was one of the castles visited by Hans Christian Andersen on his trips to Zealand.
