Gustavsberg Christmas Plates with Swedish Christmas Motifs
Gustavsberg Christmas plates have been part of the Swedish Christmas tradition for many years, and the series includes a wide selection of different motifs and years.
The motifs range from classic Christmas scenes to simpler and more graphic expressions. Several well-known Swedish artists and designers have been behind the plates over the years, giving the series many different expressions.
Christmas Plates by Sven Jonson, Stig Lindberg, Paul Hoff and Pia Rönndahl
Sven Jonson designed the years from 1971 to 1980. Then followed Stig Lindberg from 1981 to 1985, Paul Hoff from 1986 to 1992, and Pia Rönndahl in 1993 and 1994.
The motifs and style therefore change throughout the series. Some collect the plates by designer, while others look for a specific year or a particular Christmas motif.
The Oval Gustavsberg Christmas Plates from 1981 and 1982
The Christmas plates from 1981 and 1982 stand out from the rest of the series with their slightly oval shape. Both were designed by Stig Lindberg.
The motif from 1981 is The Flight to Egypt, while the Christmas plate from 1982 shows Virgin Mary with the Baby Jesus.
These two years are therefore a somewhat different feature in the series and especially interesting if you appreciate Stig Lindberg's design or a more retro look.
How You Can Use Gustavsberg Christmas Plates
The blue Gustavsberg Christmas plates can be used both at the table and hung up as decoration.
Hang Gustavsberg Christmas Plates on the Wall
Gustavsberg Christmas plates work well as wall decoration. Hang a single favorite or collect several years so the various blue motifs become part of the Christmas decoration.
You can, for example, hang them together in the kitchen or dining room and combine plates from different years and designers.
The plates do not have holes for hanging on the back, so we recommend separate plate accessories, e.g., a spiral hanger. On the individual product page, you can see which hanger fits the size.
Use the Blue Gustavsberg Christmas Plates on the Table
With a diameter of 20 cm, the plates fit well as plates for, among other things, lunch, breakfast, cake, and dessert. They can be used for food and are dishwasher safe.
At Christmas, you can mix different years so each place setting gets its own motif, or choose several from the same designer.
We do not recommend using Gustavsberg's oval Christmas plates for food and recommend gentle washing.
