Royal Copenhagen crawling child figurine no. 1518 or 106

Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 1518 or 106 depicts a crawling child captured in a recognizable and lively moment. The figurine has a fine, natural movement, where the child stands with its hands against the surface and the body lifted, as in the concentrated phase between play and the first steps. This makes the motif both warm, human, and full of presence.

Else Sandholt has created a child figurine with an eye for the small moments of everyday life. The soft modeling gives the figurine a calm and credible character, while the classic underglaze emphasizes Royal Copenhagen's special tradition for porcelain figurines. In the pictures, the child is seen wearing blue trousers and a light top with small decorations, which gives the figurine a fine play of colors and a classic expression that fits beautifully into both modern and more traditional interiors.

This porcelain figurine appeals both to collectors of Royal Copenhagen figurines and to those who are fond of child figurines with history and personality. The motif makes it ideal as a gift idea for a christening, birth, or as a special figurine for the home, where it can stand alone or be included together with other porcelain figurines in a collection. Older porcelain like this holds a special charm and is at the same time a sustainable choice, when beautiful craftsmanship is allowed to live on and create joy in new surroundings.

A figurine like this brings both warmth and storytelling with it. It fits well on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or as part of a personal collection, where motifs of children and family life are allowed to fill the space. For many, it is precisely the classic child figurines that are some of the most beloved within Danish porcelain art, because they unite technique, atmosphere, and recognizable motifs in a down-to-earth way.
