Crow Bing & Grøndahl stoneware figurine no. 1714 Dahl-Jensen

This crow from Bing & Grøndahl is a striking stoneware figurine with a calm, concentrated expression and a form that captures the bird's alert and slightly upright character. The figurine is modelled with the beak slightly forward and the body low over the stone, so that it almost seems like a snapshot from nature. The dark, grey-brown tones in the plumage are combined with lighter areas and warm brown decoration over the back and chest, which gives the figurine life and depth.

Jens Peter Dahl Jensen is known for his lifelike animal figurines, and here one clearly senses his sure eye for both anatomy and movement. The crow stands on a light, rock-like base, which highlights the bird's dark body and gives the figurine a fine, sculptural counterpoint. It is a bird figurine that fits beautifully in a collection of Danish stoneware, but which can also easily stand alone on the shelf, windowsill or desk as a decorative feature with character. The figurine is referred to as Bing & Grøndahl model no. 1714 and is attributed to Jens Peter Dahl Jensen.
