Bing & Grøndahl squirrel stoneware figurine no. 2177

Bing & Grøndahl squirrel stoneware figurine no. 2177 is a charming animal figurine with a lively and attentive expression. The squirrel is modelled sitting with its tail raised behind the body and its front paws gathered around what looks like a nut. The form is simple and assured, yet full of movement, giving the figurine a fine balance between calm and alertness.

The figurine is designed by Svend Jespersen, and that very simple, naturalistic design language suits the motif well. The glaze appears in warm brownish shades with light areas on the chest, paws and tail, which give the figurine depth and variation. This makes it decorative both up close and from a slight distance, where the silhouette with the large tail immediately stands out.

As a stoneware figurine, the squirrel has a dense and solid character that fits well into both classic and more modern homes. It is ideal for a shelf, a display cabinet, a windowsill or as a small detail on a desk, where it adds personality and a discreet touch of Danish design history. It can also be combined with other animal figurines from Bing & Grøndahl, if you collect ceramic figurines with nature motifs.

For collectors, the model number is an important part of the identity, and for many it is precisely the smaller animal figurines that are sought after, because they unite narrative, craftsmanship and decorative value in a compact format. At the same time, it is a fine gift idea for someone who is fond of squirrels, Danish ceramics or older figurines with character and soul.
