Royal Copenhagen English Bulldog figurine no. 801 Knud Kyhn 23x38 cm

Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 801 depicts an English bulldog with all the weight, calm and character for which the breed is known. Knud Kyhn has modelled the dog in a low, compact and almost contemplative posture, where the broad head, the pronounced cheeks and the powerful body give the figurine a vivid and present expression. It is a porcelain figurine that appeals both to collectors of Royal Copenhagen and to dog lovers with an eye for Danish design.

The glossy underglaze highlights the soft transitions in the porcelain and gives the bulldog depth in both form and play of colours. On the figurine, a predominantly white glaze is seen with dark markings around the eyes, ears and on the body, which emphasises the breed's characteristic appearance. From every angle, the work with the modelling is clearly experienced - from the heavy paws and the short tail to the characterful face with the calm, almost serious gaze.

Knud Kyhn is known for his animal figurines for Royal Copenhagen, and here in particular one senses his sure feeling for anatomy and personality. The figurine has a size that makes it suitable as a striking feature in the interior, where it can be placed on a shelf, sideboard or in a display cabinet. It also works obviously as a gift for the collector or for someone who is fond of bulldogs, porcelain figurines and Danish design history.

Older figurines like this have a special ability to add warmth, history and individuality to the home. It is the type of decorative art and collector's item that is created to last for generations, and that can still find a beautiful place in a modern home. When you choose vintage Royal Copenhagen, you are at the same time choosing quality and the joy of letting fine craftsmanship live on.
