Royal Copenhagen Faun with Bear figurine no. 976, 20 cm, defect/repair.

Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 976 shows a faun on the back of a bear in a motif that unites nature, mythology and movement in one cohesive composition. The figurine is designed by Knud Kyhn and has an expression that many collectors associate with his vivid animal depictions and strong sense of form. The grey bear is modelled with weight and strength, while the light faun creates a fine contrast with its slender, almost floating posture.

The motif is both dramatic and poetic. The bear stands solidly and low with its head turned to the side, while the faun sits high on its back with a raised arm and bent upper body. The interplay between the two figures gives the porcelain figurine a narrative character, which makes it suitable as a decorative art figurine in the living room, on the shelf or in a collection of Royal Copenhagen figurines. The glaze in grey and light shades emphasizes the modelling and gives the figurine depth and life.

This porcelain figurine is made in underglaze and contains the special blend of craftsmanship and storytelling that makes older figurines from Royal Copenhagen attractive to both collectors and those who want personal interior décor with history. A figurine like this adds character to the home and is at the same time a beautiful example of how classic Danish design can live on and gain new value in a modern setting.

The specific specimen is sold with a small defect/repair on one front paw, as also appears from the previous registration. If you are interested in Knud Kyhn, faun figurines, bear figurines or rarer Royal Copenhagen figurines, this is a striking and decorative piece of porcelain art with clear collector appeal.
