About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas anniversary plate 1955 with the motif Dybbøl Mill marks the 60th anniversary of the world's first Christmas plate from 1895. This edition is therefore both part of the well-known Danish Christmas plate tradition and a piece of porcelain history, where a previously beloved motif was reissued in a larger format as an anniversary plate.

According to the existing information, the motif originates from Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plate from 1947 and was designed by Margrethe Hyldahl. On the front, the prominent mill can be seen rising above a quiet winter landscape, where the snow lies around the buildings, and where the blue shades create the special calm and solemnity that characterize classic Bing & Grøndahl plates. The large mill in the center gives the motif weight, while the low houses, the trees, and the soft tracks in the snow-covered terrain add warmth and presence.

It is precisely Dybbøl Mill that makes this anniversary edition particularly interesting. The motif unites Danish history, winter atmosphere, and Christmas tradition in one combined expression. Along the edge stands the visible text 1895 JULE-AFTEN 1955, which emphasizes the connection between the anniversary year and the long story of Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates. The series of 5-year Christmas anniversary plates began in 1915 and was subsequently released every fifth year, which makes the 1955 edition an important part of the series.

The larger size of 23 cm makes the plate suitable both as wall decoration and for use on the table. It can be hung up on its own or be included in a collection of blue white plates, and it also works beautifully as a plate for, for example, Christmas lunch, lunch dishes, or servings all year round. For many, anniversary plates in particular are also a fine choice when seeking a specific year with personal significance. Choosing older porcelain with history is at the same time a beautiful way to give classic Danish craftsmanship new life in the home.
