About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas anniversary plate 1915 Behind the frozen window marks the 20th anniversary of the world's first Christmas plate from 1895. Precisely for this reason, this anniversary edition is something special in the series: the motif has been reissued from the very first Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate and thus links directly to the beginning of one of the best-known Danish plate series.

Behind the frozen window is an atmospheric winter motif, where one looks out through the organic, almost flower-like frost patterns on the pane. At the top, the city's dark silhouette can be glimpsed against the night sky, with stars above the roofline and the text 1895 · Christmas Eve · 1915. The contrast between the cold, detail-rich ice on the pane and the calm city in the background gives the motif a special poetic depth. It is a Christmas motif that does not tell its story with many figures or actions, but with light, silence, and expectation.

Frederik August Hallin was behind the motif, and it is clearly seen why precisely this composition was chosen for the anniversary plate in 1915. It captures the Nordic Christmas atmosphere in its purest form: winter cold outside, warmth and presence suggested from within. The frost patterns fill the foreground like a decorative veil, while the city's profile in the background creates calm and balance. It is a motif that works both as a classic Christmas plate and as a fine piece of Danish porcelain art.

The anniversary plates from Bing & Grøndahl were issued every fifth year from 1915, and this first anniversary edition therefore has a very special place in the history of the series. At the same time, the size of 23 cm makes it usable both as wall decoration and as a plate. It can be hung up alone or be included in a plate wall, but it is also suitable on the table for, for example, Christmas lunch, lunch serving, or a pasta dish. Using older quality design like this in everyday life is also a beautiful way to preserve good craftsmanship and give historical porcelain new life in a modern home.

For collectors, the year 1915 is naturally central, but also for those seeking a plate with personal significance, this anniversary edition is interesting. The larger size also makes it ideal as the bottom part in an arrangement with other annual plates or porcelain dinner plates.
