About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas anniversary plate 1970 marks the 75th anniversary of the world's first Christmas plate from 1895 and continues one of the series' classic winter motifs in a larger format. This 5-year Christmas anniversary plate bears the motif Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, which was originally used on Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plate from 1914. This gives the anniversary edition a special place both in the collection and in the story of Danish Christmas porcelain.

On the plate, Amalienborg's monumental facade is seen in a quiet winter darkness, where the snow lies low in front of the palace and emphasizes the calm, solemn atmosphere. In front of the building stands the equestrian statue raised on its plinth behind the palace square's fence, and the small stars in the deep blue sky give the motif an almost poetic evening light. It is precisely the interplay between building architecture, winter calm and the Copenhagen Christmas Eve that makes the motif so memorable.

The visible inscription 1895 JULE AFTEN 1970 elegantly ties the beginning and the anniversary year together. Here, the plate becomes not only a decorative piece of porcelain, but also a historical marking of the series, which began in 1895 and came to leave its mark on Danish collector culture. That the motif is designed by Th. Larsen and resumed from 1914 makes this year especially interesting for those who seek specific years or wish to follow the development of Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plates through generations.

The anniversary plate is larger than the ordinary Christmas plates and therefore functions not only beautifully on the wall, but also on the table. It can be used as a lunch or dinner plate, where the blue underglaze motif creates a special atmosphere at winter meals and Christmas lunches. At the same time, it is a fine way to give older quality porcelain new life in a modern home, where history, craftsmanship and sustainable reuse go hand in hand.

For collectors and porcelain lovers, the 1970 edition is an atmospheric anniversary plate with both Danish cultural history, a recognizable city motif and a strong connection to the original Christmas plate from 1914.
