About the item
Desiree H.C. Andersen Christmas plate 1971 with The Little Match Girl is an atmospheric porcelain plate, where H.C. Andersen's touching fairy tale is interpreted in the classic blue-and-white expression. The motif shows the little girl sitting in the cold, while the light from the matches opens up her dream world. The plate also shows the year 1971, which is an important part of the identity of this sought-after annual plate and an obvious search term for collectors of Danish Christmas plates and H.C. Andersen porcelain.

The motif was created by Mads Stage, who with a confident line manages to capture both the vulnerability of the fairy tale and the poetic light in the scene. In the picture, the girl is seen in front of a wall, while her gaze and hand reach toward an illuminated Christmas tree, where the many lights emphasize the contrast between winter cold and hope. This makes this H.C. Andersen Christmas plate more than a traditional Christmas plate; it tells a story that many know and remember.

The plate was produced by Porcelænsfabrikken Désirée, a large and well-regarded Danish porcelain factory. It is made in the good, robust quality that characterizes Désirée's Christmas plates, and it is not only intended as a collector's item. It can also be used for food and works well as a dinner plate, just as it is dishwasher safe. In addition, it has holes on the back for hanging, so it can both decorate the wall and be used on the table at Christmastime.

Although this Christmas plate was produced many years ago, it comes from the remaining stock from Porcelænsfabrikken Désirée, which we purchased in 2006. Therefore, virtually all our plates from the series are still unused. This makes it particularly interesting for you who want older Danish porcelain with history, but also appreciate getting a piece of classic design that can still be used in the home.

A vintage Christmas plate like this adds personality, tradition, and storytelling to the décor. It is ideal as a gift for collectors, for the fairy tale-loving recipient, or for yourself if you love Danish porcelain, H.C. Andersen, and the special atmosphere of Christmas.
