Bing & Grøndahl Bream fish figurine no. 1608 porcelain 28 cm

The bream from Bing & Grøndahl is a distinctive fish figurine in porcelain, modelled with a lifelike eye for both form and movement. The broad fish body, the upright fins and the characteristic mouth give the figurine a lively expression, while the glaze in light grey-blue tones emphasises the motif's calm, Nordic character. It is a porcelain figurine that appeals both to the collector and to the person who wants a piece of Danish design with clear personality.

The figurine is designed by Carl Mortensen, who is known for his animal motifs, and here the bream is rendered with fine details in scales, fins and head. The underglaze gives the surface depth and a soft sheen, which suits the fish's organic forms. The large width of 28 cm makes the model present in the interior, where it gains more weight and character than smaller animal figurines.

A Bing & Grøndahl fish figurine like this fits beautifully on a shelf, in a display cabinet or as part of a collection of porcelain figurines and animal figurines. It can also stand alone as a decorative feature, where its calm play of colours and naturalistic expression create an eye-catcher without seeming heavy. For collectors of Danish porcelain, model no. 1608 is at the same time an interesting figurine, because motif, artist and item number are important details when the collection is to be built up thoughtfully.

This bream has a special appeal to those who are fond of Bing & Grøndahl's classic animal figurines and porcelain with motifs from nature. It is a figurine with both decorative value and collector interest, and it also works well as a gift idea for a porcelain collector, angler or a person with a sense for Danish craftsmanship.
