Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1742 Boy on books "The little professor"

This porcelain figurine from Bing & Grøndahl shows a boy sitting on a small stack of books in a calm, thoughtful posture. With his arms around his knees and his gaze turned slightly downward and to the side, the figurine has a quiet and introverted expression, which gives it a lovely story. The nickname "The little professor" suits the motif beautifully and brings to mind immersion, curiosity and childlike seriousness.

The figurine is designed by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger, who is known for her vivid and sensitive child figurines. Here, the child's posture and face are modeled with great confidence, so that the porcelain figurine has personality without seeming affected. The light top, the blue trousers, the grey shoes and the books beneath him together create a harmonious whole, in which the discreet colors emphasize the figurine's calm character.

As Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1742, this is a classic child figurine that appeals to collectors of Danish porcelain and to those who appreciate figurines with human presence. The underglaze decoration gives a beautiful, soft surface and is at the same time part of the quality that has made Bing & Grøndahl porcelain figurines sought after through generations. It is precisely the type of older porcelain that deserves to be preserved and used in interior decor, where it can add history, soul and personality to the home.

The boy on books is ideal on the bookshelf, on the desk, in the display cabinet or as part of a collection of child figurines from Bing & Grøndahl. The figurine is also well suited as a gift for a collector, for a home with an interest in Danish design history or for someone who appreciates motifs with books, learning and quiet immersion.
