Bing & Grøndahl Boy with Crab figurine no. 1870

Bing & Grøndahl figurine no. 1870, "Boy with Crab", captures a small everyday moment with great presence. The young boy stands barefoot and looks intently down at the crab by his feet, and the entire motif exudes childlike curiosity, summer atmosphere and the quiet excitement that arises in the encounter with nature. It is a porcelain figurine with a lively and recognizable motif that appeals to both collectors and those who are fond of classic Danish figurative art.

The figurine is designed by Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger, who is known for her sensitive child figures. Here, her sure eye for body language and movement is seen in the boy's slightly forward-bent posture, the bare legs and the natural way he stands. The blue suspender shorts and the white blouse give the figurine a clean and timeless expression, while the crab on the base adds narrative and character. The colors are kept in a calm, harmonious scale that suits the classic Bing & Grøndahl universe.

The porcelain figurine is executed in underglaze, which supports the soft, durable and familiar expression that many collectors associate with Bing & Grøndahl porcelain. "Boy with Crab" fits beautifully among other child figures, but also stands strongly on its own in a bookcase, a display cabinet or on a shelf, where the motif and silhouette are allowed to come into their own. It is ideal for the collector of B&G figurines, but also as a gift for someone who appreciates Danish design history and figurines with a story.

This Bing & Grøndahl figurine combines artistic sensibility with an earthy motif from the world of childhood. It is precisely the type of porcelain figurine that adds personality and warmth to the home, and that continues to catch the eye and awaken memories with its calm, narrative scene.
