Søholm Money Box Man Gunnar Nu Hansen 1985 Bikuben Money Box Man of the Year

The money box man with Gunnar Nu Hansen from 1985 is a characterful ceramic figure from Søholm, created for Bikuben as part of the Money Box Man of the Year series. Here the money box is designed as a portrait bust, where facial features, hair and clothing are modelled with a calm and precise expression. The figure has a tie and marked facial features, which give it a recognisable and personal character.

This type of money box man is more than a classic piggy bank. It unites Danish design history, banking history and figurative ceramics in one and the same object. Precisely for that reason, Søholm's money box men are today of interest both as collectors' items and as decorative figures with a story. In many homes, the Money Box Man of the Year series has been associated with savings, tradition and a time when utilitarian objects often also had identity and humour.

As a vintage piggy bank, this Søholm figure also contains the special charm that comes with older Danish applied art. It is created to last and still deserves a place in the home, whether it is used as a collector's figure, as part of a display with Danish ceramics or as a different gift for someone with an interest in Gunnar Nu Hansen, Bikuben or Danish money box men. The matte, light ceramic and the sculptural form make it easy to place in both modern and more classic surroundings.

For collectors of Søholm, figures with well-known persons or bank-related piggy banks, this is an obvious find. It functions both as a conversation piece and as a piece of Danish cultural history, where reuse and preservation of older quality ceramics make sense in a contemporary home.
