Bing & Grøndahl Mother with child figurine no. 1021401 / 1552

This porcelain figurine from Bing & Grøndahl depicts a warm and intimate moment between mother and child. The motif is calm and human: the mother sits with the child on her lap, closely enclosed by her arms, while the child leans in toward her. The figurine conveys care, security, and the quiet intimacy that makes the mother and child motif in particular a classic within Danish porcelain art.

Ingeborg Plockross-Irminger has given the composition a soft and natural character. The fine movements in the figurine group, the slightly bent posture, and the close contact between the two figures create life and feeling without seeming exaggerated. In the pictures, the figurine is shown executed in light, subdued shades with a white garment, beige and brownish details, as well as a chair with a woven structure, which gives the motif extra depth and texture.

As a Bing & Grøndahl figurine, it is an obvious choice for collectors of classic porcelain figurines, parent with children figurines, and Danish design with a figurative motif. It also fits beautifully into the home as a personal decoration on a shelf, in a display cabinet, or on a chest of drawers, where it can add warmth and history to the room. The motif also makes it suitable as a gift idea for, for example, a mother, for a christening, or as a meaningful family figurine.

Older porcelain figurines like this one have a special charm because they unite craftsmanship, artistic sense of form, and lasting quality. Choosing a figurine with history is also a way to give classic design new life in a modern interior. It is precisely the type of decorative art and collector's item that can continue to bring joy through generations.
