Dahl Jensen redstart figurine no. 1242 in porcelain

Dahl Jensen figurine no. 1242 depicts a redstart executed as a classic bird figurine in porcelain. The figurine has a calm and lifelike expression, where the bird is modelled sitting on a branch with green leaves beneath it. The soft transitions in brownish, greyish and light shades give the figurine life, while the warm tail and the fine markings on the wings emphasise the character of the motif and make it easily recognisable to collectors of Danish porcelain figurines.

This porcelain figurine is a good example of the Danish tradition of animal figurines, where craftsmanship, powers of observation and decorative effect come together in a higher unity. The glazed surface highlights both the plumage and the small details around the eye, beak and branch. The fact that the figurine is also executed in underglaze gives it the depth and glow that many associate with older quality figurines in porcelain.

A bird figurine like this fits beautifully into both a classic and a more personal interior. It can stand alone in a display cabinet, on a shelf or in a still life with other porcelain animals, where it adds warmth, nature and history. For collectors of Dahl Jensen figurines, model number 1242 is an important detail, and for those who appreciate decorative art with soul, it is a charming figurine with timeless appeal. Vintage porcelain like this is also a meaningful way to pass on good craftsmanship and let beautiful objects find new life in the home.
