About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate 1954 with the motif Hans Christian Andersen's House, Odense combines Danish Christmas tradition, cultural history and the classic blue-and-white porcelain expression for which the series is loved. On this year's plate one encounters an atmospheric winter scene, where H.C. Andersen's birthplace lies covered in snow, while children in the foreground build a snowman. At the bottom of the plate stands the visible text JULE-AFTEN 1954, which anchors the motif in both the story of Christmas and the specific year.

The motif creates a fine connection between H.C. Andersen's fairy-tale universe and the Danish feeling of Christmas. The low house with the snow-covered roof, the bare winter branch above the building and the playing children give the scene life and warmth. It is precisely the contrast between the simple urban environment and the children's winter play that makes this plate particularly charming. It tells not only of a well-known place in Odense, but also of the childhood, imagination and popular atmosphere that are so often associated with H.C. Andersen.

The Christmas plate is designed by Børge Pramvig and is part of Bing & Grøndahl's famous Christmas plate series, which began in 1895 as the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been issued every year, and each year was produced in a limited number. After the year's final firing, the mould was destroyed, which makes each release a completed year with its own place in the history of the series.

This plate also has a special appeal for collectors and for you who are fond of older porcelain with history and soul. At the same time, a Christmas plate from 1954 is more than just a collector's item. It can be hung up as part of the December decorations, but it can also be used as a small plate for cake or dessert for the rest of the year. This makes it a beautiful example of quality design that can still create joy in a modern home.

Choosing older Bing & Grøndahl porcelain is also a fine way to give enduring craftsmanship new life. A year such as 1954 brings both Danish design history, sustainable reuse and nostalgic Christmas atmosphere into the décor.
